Morning Reflections - Loch Maree

This is one of my favourite landscape images taken on my first trip around the NC500. A location I had planned to visit for quite some time and although many sunrises throughout the trip had not paid off, everything I could have hoped for came together for this one.

Just ten minutes from Ullapool, I chose Rhue Lighthouse as the perfect spot to set up to capture sunrise. I was spoiled for choice with amazing colour in one direction and the perfect light hitting the lighthouse in the other.

Morning Reflections - Assynt

On my return from the foot of Stac Pollaidh at sunrise, I was fortunate to spot some mirror like reflections of the mountains in the loch below. Although unplanned, I was able to find this log stretching out into the water for a composition I was happy with.

Sunset - Stac Pollaidh

My wife and I hiked Stac Pollaidh on a clear winter evening. We had the place entirely to ourselves apart from a raven which joined us to watch the sunset. You can spot him in the bottom left of the four images admiring the view.

Sunrise - Loch Maree

I visited Loch Maree this once and only for the first few hours of the day but it quickly became one of my favourite locations in Scotland. Sunrise was as good as it gets and the period of time after was equally fantastic.

By the time I had come across the lone tree shown in the bottom right the colour in the sky had completely gone, but that gives me the perfect excuse for another trip.

Smoo Cave is a location I had wanted to visit long before I started photography. Having been in other “large” caves I was not prepared for the scale of this one and would definitely recommend paying a visit.
